Starting an interactive reef - 265g reef tank w/ live web camera

So the utility sink is done in the sump room. I also had them drill out a floor drain as well â€"œ it’s not if but when there’s going to be a spill.

Now I need to paint the walls with the bilge paint I ordered. They will not be done patching holes they put in the walls to run electric until Monday. The room needs to vent for at least 24 hours so I probably won't be able to get to that until next weekend. (we won't be off for the holiday on Monday)

Nice plans, I'll be watching your progress.

I have a 120 reef in my office. I also have a 220 that's not set up yet that I am hoping to connect into the system and would really like to do a web cam on our web page we are developing. I have envisioned an informative write up on preserving drinking water resources and reefs with lots of links and live web cams.

Show me the way!

drilled out the floor drain to where? just under the slab, or is there a pipe taking the water somewhere?

the cameras I know about that are movable are mostly private and you need a password.

Here's one in Thailand. It's not up right now but when it is, check it out.

We're on the third floor so the drains connect to a stack above the ceiling on the second floor that leads to the main sewer line. We may be in the mid-west but there are building codes you still have to follow! :)

OK, OK...I saw what looks like cement and figured it was a bottom floor. It's a Left Coast thing. Last time I saw concrete on an upper floor apt. it was completely cracked, lumpy and messed up from earthquake activity.

NP. Since we're in an old building, they had to cut a larger hole for the PVC drains and fill the gaps with fresh concrete. (don't want the tenants below to get wet!) :)

The building is over 100 years old so the floors are solid. It took them over 20 minutes to drill the holes â€"œ it felt like an hour. Not easy answering the phones with that racket going on…

Here’s what I will be using for the sump. It’s a Rubbermaid 300 Gallon Stock Tank that I picked up from a local coral guy who was getting out of the business.

He already built an platform for frags so I should be set.

Luckily I asked him for dimensions before I finished the sump room. Originally the room was 4'x9' but I found out the tank was 52" wide! The sump room was framed out but they were able to unfasten it from the floor and add another foot to the width to accommodate the sump. Close call!

OK, just got my RO unit in which I will hook up this weekend. I don't know if I can talk about where I got it from but you can tell from the photo!

At 100gpd I should be able to get things filled in a little less than a week.

I also got the overflow box siliconed together. I will let it set up for a day and then wrap it with black acrylic so I can notch out the fingers in the top.

Then we'll silicon it to the tank by this time next week and start filling it up!

Geeze Ed, not only do you not say it, you even blur the picture to protect the identity of the vendor.

In all seriousness, you are allowed to post about anything you buy from any vendor and even provide links. However, if you materially gain from said 'plugs' then it gets the scrutiny of the moderators. They will then determine if the post can stay or not.

Sorry about that. I took the shot quickly and didn't notice it was as blurry as it was. Here's a better shot of the system:

Hopefully you can clearly see where I got this RO unit. If you look closely and long enough it should be pretty clear. (and yes, there was no gain from this post)

On a serious note, I hope to get a little time this weekend to make it to the office and prep the sump room. I am going to paint it late Saturday afternoon so it can withstand any spills/splashes that are bound to happen.
