Starting my propogation business...

You might try using some ammonia to clean those totes with, its excellent at cutting grease and can be tested for, But better yet try to find new/clean ones. Im not sure its worth the risk? If one contaminates your system its a total tear down and scrub everything.

not much progress since i last posted, however im going to a farm auction tomorrow morning to acquire the second reserve water tank. this one is 1600 gallons, but is expected to go for real cheap because most farmers dont want to deal with these things anymore (so says the seller). Its expected to go for under $50 and is only 45 minutes away from where i live. I also have a couple friends coming over on Sunday night and Monday, so I should be able to make some legitimate progress then, and plan on taking some pictures to show everyone whats up. Hopefully I will get the concrete work done as well as pressure washing the totes that will be used as the tanks. I got the totes for cheap, but most of the waste oils inside seem to be baked in, so i might have to just find another seller who has ones that were either unused or simply used for water or food enzymes (something a little less viscus that wouldn't leave this kind of residue). Other than that, i purchased all the lighting i plan to use to start, which are 400W metal halide low bay lighting systems (with bulbs) that are used in warehouses. I found a man on craig's list that was selling them for $20 a piece. Since i was buying several, he cut the price a bit and i walked with 8 of them and 2 extra bulbs for $135! ok, time to work at the real job. pics to follow this weekend!

Ok it's the weekend, where's the pics? :spin1:

ok, so the pics aren't much, but here is the progress that has been made. These are the totes i acquired that i will be washing out and cleaning to use as the tanks. they each are 275 gallons, but after i lop off the tops and cut them down a bit, they should hold ~225 gallons of water apiece. I got 6 of them to start with. There is also a picture of the 1,500 gallon tank which is going to be used to hold my RO DI freshwater reserves. this will be connected to the tanks with float valves to restore any evaporation as well as hold the water that i will pump into the other tank like this (which i haven't acquired... yet) which will hold my saltwater reserve (used to fill new tanks and also be connected to the other tanks with float valves to restore saltwater from water changes and water used in harvests). Last is a picture of some of the lighting i purchased. Thats right, lowbay 400W metal halides. they will sit nicely on the upper supports of the metal frames on the tanks and should provide plenty of lighting to the anemones. as you can see behind the lights, the brick work still needs to be done. I'm going to try to knock that out Sunday. I have a carpenter friend that is hopefully going to help me with reconstructing the west wall where i want to rip out the garage door and replace it with double doors that open outward. LOTS to do, unfortunately before production can really start.

nothing new to report, however i may be getting the other 1,500 gallon tank here shortly. tomorrow my girlfriend and I will be working on things and hopefully some progress will be made.

well, things were all supposed to fall in place this last sunday; my carpenter and the plumber were both planning on arriving to get things rolling around 10 am. unfortunately, both canceled on the last minute due to vehicle complications (completely unrelated to each other). The carpenter is planning on coming out within the next week or two, however the plumber has not gotten back to me :(

Just wanted to pop in and say good luck with everything. I'm from Terre Haute, and live in SW Florida now. Have you had a chance to visit Inland Aquatics? I know Morgan, and I'm friends with his sister. He has an amazing setup. He could probably give you some good pointers, and not very far away. Definitely worth the drive to take a look if nothing else.

chewit,
I am in Bradley, and have a decent sized prop system up and running. get ahold of me and come check it out sometime.
