starting up my tank again

well it looks like i made the fatal mistake of goin on vacation to virginia and leaving my parents in charge of my two tanks. i recently upgraded to a 55 gal from my biocube, and also started a 10 gallon tank with two percs.

well even tho i have my saltwater containers and freshwater containers labeled they somehow mixed up the two and topped of with the saltwater needless to say my 55 gallon was trashed but the 10 gal was fine. apparently they thought each container was for each tank. all inhabitants were fine and happy in the 10 gallon and they had not told me about the murders in the bigger tank which included my recently mated pair of black saddlebacks, two 7 in rbtas, and a bicolor angel. needless to say i was devastated that all my hard work was for nothing.

now im looking to restock but i really want to make it a dedicated clown anemone tank. i have a 48 in sunpod with 2 150 watt bulbs over the tank and about 65 pounds of live rock and now that i have done numerous water changes all the parameters and salinity is back to normal.

im just lookin for some input on some combintaions of clowns and anemones. two of the clowns i was interested in were A. akindynos and A. chyrsopterus. ive had good succes with anemones healthy and like the look of Bta's

Sorry to here about the losses. I like your plan for the dedicated tank. Either of the clowns you mentioned are going to be great additions. I too like the BTA's for the look, survivability, and the ease of propagation. Good luck with the new setup.

Very clear instruction is very important. do not take anything for granted. Non reef keeper have no ideal most of the time. I even package food out to daily package for them. I even do this for my reefkeeper friend who check on my reef for me when I am not there. Adding Kalk and Ca and bicarb are a no-no's.
good luck with your tank. I have H. magnifica, and a GBTA in my 58 g with 2X250 MH. This anemone is difficult to keep or to get healthy. However, it is much easier to keep stationary if you know what you are doing. You cannot go wrong with BTA but this species wander often.
H. crispa and H. malu is reasonable to keep or find healthy, they require a sand bed. S. haddoni is also easier to keep. They also require a sand bed and will eat fish that you have in your tank.
I guess which anemone to keep is really up to which you can find near where you are at, which species of clowns you will eventually get. I like to stick to natural pairs and not unnatural aquarium relationship

You might look into getting an automatic top off system so you do not have to worry about that next time you travel. Automating a tank also allows for more enjoyment instead of work.

ya thanks for the advice ive been looking into an automatic top of system. and ya ur right orionN i prolly should have labelled things a little better. ive had good luck with Bta's and have keep a haddoni but it ate most of my fish except for the clowns and angel. plus i like the look of the long tentacles flowing in the current. i have a friend who i gave a rose clone to and it has split in his tank so i kno i can get one of those if i want.

i havent been able to find much info on either A. akindynos or A. chyrsopterus but i kno that a bta hosts them naturally in the wild. but i might want to try my hand at an H. crispa since it host both these clowns too. also what r the differences between the health and such of these two clowns
