Starving Algea Blenny

My algae blenny is starving. He has been in the tank for about a year but has eaten all the food sources. I have many of times put nori and packaged algae sheets in the tank on a algae clip, even tried rubber banding it to a rock. This guy just wont eat and is slowly starving.

Any suggestions?

I tried putting algea from my fuge in the main, but he wont eat grape calupera.

Give him to someone with a tank that will support him as soon as possible.

Thanks for not being helpfull jerk...

What is needed to support him!

Hmmm, I am trying to think why I shouldn't just ban you now and get it over with[chimp]

Make some paste with spirulina flakes and smear it on a small rock or shell. Let it dry a little and then place it in the aquarium in an area that doesn't have a lot of low. If that doesn't work Nanoook's suggestion is about your best shot.

He was being helpful as that could be his only shot. If he won't eat any prepared foods he needs to be in a tank with a natural food source which yours clearly no longer has.

Bad n000b, Calling Mods Jerk doesnt get you far on the Intrawebz.

if you cant feed the fish Nanooks advice is right on the money.

Algae is needed to support him. Either grow it in your tank or give him to someone who has some. I believe that is what the jerk was saying...you may want to look for the RC Mod logo before calling someone a jerk. But then you will learn a lot more here if you just don't call anyone a jerk and actually think about what others are saying.

Just a suggestion.

Been there done that, Nanook is so right you'll be lucky if you find it food in time from another persons tank. Keeping it is considered torture and that would then make you the jerk right.

getting past the argument.......

algae blennys will eat Black worms.......and will survive through the algae ups and downs. Mine do great on black worms even though I was a little surprised when my first one went for them.

Apparently live worms makes all the difference!!

That MIGHT work but in my experience many Salarias will just ignore anything other than algae or diatoms, including live foods that drive other fish wild. Also, worms aren't exacly a good diet for something that is herbivorous. However, it may be worth a shot and could buy some time for him.

Another possibility that I didn't mention earlier is tring some of the sinking algae wafers. That's one thing I've had some success with even when the fish ignored every other food I tried.

is this person serious, they a called a RC mederator a jerk, for helping them, I'm willing to bet this person doesn't respond on this thread again just because....... Wow, that moderator gave you the best solution to your problem, or should I say your starving fish's problem. You should spend more time educating yourself than jumping on moderators for giving you an answer you didn't wanna hear.

Sometimes, you get lucky. I wouldn't recommend anyone else try his approach, but he appears to have skated, as Nook is a pretty mellow guy.
That's done now, he didn't get banned, but he's still got a problem. Let's see if we can help him solve his starving blenny issue, and move away from the other issue. ;)

Peter Eichler, The paste you talk about, are you just adding a small amount of RO water to the spirulina flakes and mash it up?

I agree with both statements (might not work and not the best diet).......but.........I am just going off my personal experience with 3 Algae blennys............definitely worth a try if he is not going to touch anything else

What does everyone think about raizing the nutrient level of the tank a little bit to get just a tad more algae growth? I'm thinking the same problem is going to happen in my tank with my blenny in a couple more weeks.

Yep. Another thing that could be used is the spirulina powder that is made for fish fry.

I moved a rock from the fuge into the display, he has cleaned it and looking much better, I guess I can just cycle rocks back and forth...

(90g display with 55g fuge)

All I am saying is that telling someone to just get rid of the fish is not helpful at all and alienates them. Correct me if I am wrong but this forum is to HELP people, not shoot them down...

I have some paste made from shredded nori and formula two flakes drying out right now, hopefully that will work. I don't have any spirulina powder but will try some if that doesn't work.

My Algae Blenny loves Prime reef flakes, and those red worms in the frozen food cubes. He eats 5 or 6 worms when I throw a cube in. I would give these foods a try. Also, like one of the others has already stated, you might want to overfeed the tank to get some algae growing in there. Nobody wants to see the fish die.

Are you sure it's an Algae Blenny?
