Subject says it all.
would a 6080 work off of a wavemaker.
or are should they ideally be kept on all the time.

I'm aware that some makes don't work well if they're constantly switched off and on by a wave machine
and just wondered...

If not its not the end of the earth but it would be nice.

cheers
Phil

streams (6060 and 6080) are made to tolerate ONE on/off an hour.....so a simple appliance timer will work fine. Wavemakers will kill one.

For more variability, you gotta kick up to the electronically controllable 6000 and 6100.

Moonpod is correct, here is a PM from Roger when I asked the same question myself.

Unfortunately a wavemaker will destroy the 6080, a timer with 1 hr intervals is the only control possibility.

Yes, the 6080 and 6060 will be destroyed by a wavemaker, despite any manufacturers claim soft start is BS- not technically possible. The tight tolerances and shaft less side braced design make start stop particularly destructive to these pumps and voids the warranty.

As long as it isn't a quick cycling like on a wavemaker their really is no problem. The frequent start stop operation of a wavemaker destroys the brake shoes. Soft start is only possible with Electronic pumps despite what any wavemaker manufacturer says. This is why the Electronic pumps can be switched every few minutes and the standard synchronous pumps cannot.

Thanks Roger for the quick reply!

I guess I feel better now switching the pump off for feedings. Maybe I'll find a better area in the tank to feed so shutting the pump off won't be necessary.

It's no problem, we actually make a product to shut off pumps with a 7min Countdown. It is called Foodtimer 7602.
