Sterilizing equipment between tanks

Hi all,

Need some insight on sterilizing equipment used between tanks. I have a reef tank that has crypto/ich. Want to make sure that I do not spread it to my new fish only tank. I have a mag scraper that I have customized with a blade to remove algae. Works great and since they cost $100+ before I take the time to customize it I really do not want to buy another. Soooo, thoughts on making sure I don't transfer the ich. Bleach dip and then dry between uses? How long? I can do a 100% bleach dip for X period of time and then rinse it and allow it to dry. Seems pretty simple but would like some thoughts. It is a magnavore magnet so I don't think it leaks any water internally that would allow for the parasite to stay. Just want to keep it out.

Thanks!

I'll pass on the scraper question. Are you using a QT for all new fish in your new FOWLR tank? If not, its just a matter of time when it won't matter----ich will be in both tanks.

QT everything. Treat as required but I do use Clorquine Phosphate to make sure that the QT stays clear of crypto.

It appears that the general concensus from elsewhere is to rinse with tap water and allow to dry completely. Crypto cannot survive dry so that is an easy enough solution.

Solve the issue by curing that. Never cross-contaminate to a quarantine system, period. For other sterilizing, chlorine and potassium permanganate are great, though the latter will turn everything pink. Net Soak by Jungle Labs is also decent.

I agree. I don't think you can be too paranoid about your QT. All my plumbing and my QT are in my basement. The QT area looks like a hospital ICU; nothing wet gets from one are to another.
