Still Fighting Green Hair Algae

When I got back from Iraq, I had a HA problem.

I used Kent Tech M (Magnesium) an got it to 1700 - 1800 and kept it there. It has to be Kent brand. Not sure why but I tried DT's and it didn't work.

I also added a Two Little Fishes reactor with Phosban.

My problem cleared up in two months.

Water changes are good.

Reduce feedings.

Leave the lights off for three days once a month.

Not sure which thing acutally made the difference but I'm keeping what I'm doing....

I had horrible algae problems when I started my tank. I made the mistake of using tap water at first. I then switched to RO water and have kept up with water changes. I also swithced from power compacts to T5 HOs, not sure if that helped any but it seemed so. I have 0 algae now and it's been that way for a couple years. I got a Foxface originally to help out but he rarely touched it. RO water and water changes worked for me. I've heard of people using the algaefix marine but I don't like putting chemicals in my reef unless it is a total necessity.
