Still not hosting

So the bubble attached-ish to a rock on my "volcano" (DIY live rock/pond foam structure that kicks butt) however, my clowns do not seem to notice it. I would attach pictures, but am not comp savy enough to make my images small enough for this site. any suggestions on how to attract the fish to the anemone?

You can upload your pictures without resizing them on photobucket.com and then you just copy the html code. Click on the img button above where you write a thread and paste in the code. That's what I do.
How long has the anemone been in the tank? I would just be patient and slowly move the clowns over to the anemone and leave the rest up to them.

Move them over? like gently with a net, not net them, but shoo them toward the nem? How long does it usually take for them to host?

I'm no expert on this at all, but this is what I did with mine. The clowns were staying that the other side of the tank. The tank is 6 ft long, so I don't think they even noticed the anemone. I took a net and slowly cased/shooed them toward the anemone. They stayed on that side, but still ignored the anemone. The next morning the male was hosting and later that day the female joined him. I don't know how long it normally takes. I've read some clowns start hosting as soon as the anemone is put into the water and others take months. So I feel lucky mine did it so quickly. Hope yours start hosting soon! Would love to see some pics. Also what kind of clowns are they? I've read that it takes longer for tank-raised clowns to start hosting.

10 month old pair of occ's I did try to shoo them over, and they only seems stressed. Did't want to cause harm, so I will be patient.......which comes hard to this type A!

Mine won't host the new RBTA I got for her 2 weeks ago.

My problem is that the occ. clown tried to host a large hammer coral and got stung quite often. She may be scared of her new RBTA (having flashbacks of what the hammer did to her).

raen: Did you have any other stinging type corals in your tank before you got the RBTA?
You can also try one of those clown fish looking feeder clips you see at Petsmart for $2 or $3 bucks. Just clip it near the anemone.

My pair does not host either. I got my clowns in there about 10 months ago, and the BTA about 9, but they don't seem to notice. Of course they were juvenile when i got them...

Thanks you all, I hope they host soon. That was the one thing I looked forward to the most. Does anyone know of a tank hosting more than one spec of clowns? like occ's and black clowns? Also, smo: what would you put in the clips? I will get one tomorrow if that might work.

my clown jes love mysis so what i did was shut tha current off and jes squirt mysis right over anemone so tha clowns were forced to eat near it then like a week later they hosted

raen - The clip has a suction cup on the back and a picture of Nemo as part of the clip. You can pull the suction cup off if the RBTA is NOT near the glass. Then use the clip and clip it near the RBTA.
Your clowns will see it's brother hanging out near the RBTA and go over to investigate.

There are 3 outcomes to doing this:
#1 - Your clowns will say 'Hey, let's go see what that Nemo looking clown is doing by that anemone.' They will go and host it in some time.

#2 - The clowns may have already shown some interest in the RBTA and just might go and attack the new invader(plastic Nemo).

#3 - Maybe nothing at all will happen, but it's worth a try.

as a last resort, look for the place that the clownfish sleeps, and then move around the rockwork so the anemone is right on that spot (preferably touching)

Its been said if u take a pic of clowns hosting and tape it to your tank, your clowns will have more of an urge to host. Monkey see monkey do type deal.

Hey AWESOME idea!!!!! LOVE IT!!!! Thanks a bunch! I talked to Karen....from Karens rose anemones and she said they prob wont host. Usually only in the H Mag. So I will try that idea FOR SURE!!!!!

While I am no expert, I do know that hosting is a hit or miss affair alot of times. I had a single Occ. in my tank and she never hosted anything outside of the back left corner of the tank in all the time I had her. Then when I got my percs, they hosted my frogspawn after 2 days in the display tank.

Just shoo them over to the nem so they know it is there and let nature do the rest.

my pair upon introduced to the tank hosted within days in one of my two btas

when I moved and relocated the tank they stopped hosting altogether and slept near the wavemaker

since then my btas have grown to four

it's been almost a year since the move and they are back hosting in the very same anemone they left

why that same anemone and after all this time? I think there are just some things in this hobby we will never know

I have tried feeding near her, the picture and even a little sweet talk, no go! They were afraid of the picture, and ate the food right out of the nems mouth! I am going to be patient, now my next problem.....the $40. fire shrimp who wants nothing to do with us, and hides ALL OF THE TIME!!!!
