Stock lens issue

So I wound up with a dust particle on the inside of my stock canon 18-55mm lens and it's imbedding a spot on all my pictures. Is there any thing I can do to clear it out or should I just plan on buying another all purpose lens when I finally pick up a 100mm f/2.8 Macro?

Or??? What would be a good all purpose lens for the rebel XT?

To get rid of that piece of dust you'll need to send it in to Canon or have a local repair shot get in there and clean it out. Are you sure the dust spot is in the lens and not on the sensor itself?
Generally when people refer to an "all-purpose" lens it's either a 50mm prime or a zoom lens in the 28-135 range. Canon makes a good consumer grade 28-135 that has image stabilization. It's a good lens, not comparable with the L lenses but for the price it's good. In the L class you'd be looking at either the 24-105, 24-70, or even the 28-300. Some people like an all purpose lens that is longer and for them it'd be a 70-200. Many choices. I opted for the 24-105 and love it. Used to have that 28-135 and it was a great focal length but I missed the sharpness, color and contrast of the L lenses.

Figures. I guess next time I run into the closest place with camera service, I'll take it with me.

I can see it on the inside of the inner lens:(

Thanks for the info on the lenses. I'm still learning:) But that points me in a good direction.

Are you sure that it's on the lens? Generally dust inside the lens causes very few problems. My hunch is that it's really dust on the sensor.

It's a pretty big piece of something clinging to the inside of the lens. I would take a picture of it, but the only other lens I have is a 75-300mm:)
