If it were my tank I would do multiples or pairs of the tangs you have listed like the yellows and purples, even 2 Achilles bought together at the same size would work. Just do a tank of tangs and the crosshatch pair and the wrasse

As far as a Sohal attacking your hand maybe coral lagoon or others who own them can give you their experiences with them. When they figure out who feeds them and regular tank cleanings Im sure it is and can be done without issue. If you have large aggressive triggers or puffers that would be a different story

My Sohal was a beast...over a foot long and close to 2 inches thick...a great fish, never went after my hand but had started to chase my Cortez and was beginning to show aggression so I sold him...

Funny you say that... the only fish my wish has ever wanted was the Yellow Tang.

It's laid back every time I walk by the tank or stick my hand in.

If she comes by the tank it flares up and darts back and forth. Pretty funny...

Guess the hand that feeds holds true...

Also... even thought about getting some sort of long rubber gloves if in fact some of these tangs start getting territorial...

The meanest fish I had was an Oc. Clown. It would attack me every time I put my hand in the tank. I've seen many people that have been bitten by them as well. I guess it's just up to the fish... I've also kept Triggers and Eels, and the little Clown was the meanest.

I have kept many tangs together without too many issues over the years. In my 400 currently I have 9 yellows, 1 purple, 2 Blue, 2 Chevron and an Achilles.

In my old 300 FO tank I had large groups of purples and yellows and nasos. The Sohal was one of the few fish that I had that disturbed peaceful fish keeping. I have never had a Sohal attack me, although I have had many clowns. But the Sohals are notoriously aggressive fish.

There is no question that many people have success in keeping them, and they make a beautiful addition to the aquarium. But each one is unique and be prepared if you get one who likes to be mean.

The rest of your tang list can easily be done in multiples. With tangs I like to go in odd numbers when grouping them, seems to be less squabbling than with pairs. But your tank, with proper filtration, will support a healthy tang population.

Yeah I don't mind trying a few to be honest.

Just going to buy one very small and hope it works out.

Would you do the Achilles and Sohal at the same time? I'm just scared if I did them at the same time and the Achilles didn't make it (being "fragile") that then I'd have an established Sohal and never be able to get an Achilles after that.

Was it just a bit of chasing with the Sohal, or all out war?

I would plan on doing the Sohal last. I would look for a larger Achilles, and a smaller sohal. The juvenile Sohals are not as pretty as their colors patchs are smaller. But well fed they fish will grow.

The Achilles is a dominant fish as well, they are just fragile in the fact that Achilles love to be sick. But in a healthy tank things come and go on the Achilles. Mine can be perfect on Monday, covered with ich spots on Weds and then photo ready on Saturday again. And sometimes he looks perfect for months without a spot.

With the Sohal the agression can be pretty bad. I had one literally ram a mature chocolate tang to death by head smashing it. Torn fins, slashed fins, a bully Sohal can cause a bit of havoc. My experience with the Sohal was I adopted a mature one from a tank accident, and he went into my tank and just immediately went after most of the larger tangs in the tank. At the time I had yellows, purples, Nasos and the chocolate. There were large angels as well which he didn't mind. But the slashed up the Nasos pretty bad. Tore fins off the purples and eventually killed the chocolate.

Achilles aren't as delicate and mean as everyone makes them out to be, don't get me wrong they are more difficult then most. I have a Tomini, Achilles, orange shoulder, and a Desjaradini sailfin in my DT. The order I listed is smallest to biggest (3"-5.5") the tangs all get along without issues

What did you find worked well for QT?

I was thinking a 55 gallon with a good amount of live rock, good flow (maybe turning some off at night). Doing some Prazipro as preventive, unless I see anything ominous pop up.
