Stocking input welcomed- 260g, 8ft tank-

Upgrading from my 4x2x2 and a 40g cube to a single 96x24.5x25.5 260g tank with a 130g sump/fuge combo (7 ft total). Gotta love upgrading to an 8 foot long stand and still not having room under it because of the sump :fun2:

So, first, a little variation from the typical tang police question- what tangs do you recommend that are mellow, both amongst themselves and with the tank at large? My current stocking that will be moved over includes: Mated occ. clowns, bicolor blenny, flame hawkfish, 6 scissortail gobys (for schoaling effect), two purple firefish, ywg/pistol, one bangaii and one carberryi anthia, leopard wrasse (got from local reefer-had year-eats like pig).

I am not going to get all of these, but here is what else I like and am going to choose from, hence the request for input in narrowing it all down:

Wrasses- blue side wrasse, scott's wrasse, exquisite wrasse, velvet wrasse, maybe McKosker's flasher, maybe red solon.
Anthias- lyretails

Blonde naso tang, yellow tang, kole tang, hippo tang, maybe purple or blue tang (but keep hearing bad things about them)
Two royal grammas, midas blenny, pearly jawfish,
Male and female bellus angel-high on the list.

Especially on the tangs I would appreciate input- blonde naso, yellow, kole, hippo all high on the list would like purple or acantharus blue but might be too much fighting from what I hear- would like to see my gobys and firefish (and not have them scared and huddling in the rocks).

Thoughts on compatibility appreciated- would love a "showfish" but my coral is imporant and that narrows it down (hence the bellus).

If it were me and I wanted a show-tang, I would get everything perfect, be patient and add an Achilles Tang after a long QT.

If I had to pick from your list, I would go with a Kole and Naso.

For Tangs I would definitely get a Achiless Tang and Sohal but that's just me. Buy them in a small size and put them in at the same time so there will be less aggression.

Blue Tangs are just pooping machines imo. All they do is eat a lot and poop a lot, also ime mines decided to eat some zoas. They usually don't though. haha

Naso and Hippo tangs need much larger tanks than a 4' one. Skip them and choose something smaller- yellow, tomini, etc.

you reading the same thing i'm reading?
because his tank is certainly not 4', he said he is moving FROM a 4' to a 96'', his tang selection is for an 8'.

My bad...those tangs would be OK in the 96" tank. My apologies to the OP. I remembered seeing 48" and that's what I was thinking with my response.

Yes, I read 8' not 4'. With that said, I think an 8' tank is still to small for any naso species tang and definitely too small for a sohal. The kole is a great choice, I'd also look into chevron and convict tangs, 2 of my favorites.

I actually like the koles as well, achilles are awesome, but almost all the stories I hear about them are intro's to problems. As in, my achilles was doing well until...

It is an 8' tank, plan on leaving some swimming room as well. How is the chevron with the other tangs? Like a kole, yellow and hippo (and yes, may cram a naso in there)? I would love a sohal or a clown, but am going for some shoals in addition to the tangs (anthias and scissortail gobies) and the truly aggressive tangs would kill that zen. Actually would love a PBT (brown or blue), but thnk I am passing for that reason.

Anyone got thoughts on the wrasses as well? Obviously not all of these , but some good combo's. Have a leapard wrasse right now that is a character- think he will enjoy the extra room.

i wont say how many tangs ive got in my 8' tank :) but my hippos have decided to eat all my zoos. once i get them out i dont think im going to add any more.

Bumping this back up as I am getting clsoer to introducing my tangs and still curious/debating on zebrasomas. I have decided to definitely get a kole tang and naso elegans. Going to pass on the hippo- been reading a lot about coral nipping from them lately as well as ick- just not a priority for me anyway (kid will get over it).
I am saving the more agressive tang(s) until last and debating between a yellow tang, purple tang, powder brown (japonicus) and sailfin. I have heard the zebrasomas don't get along with each other so believe I am limited to one from that group- if someone has experienced differently please chime in.
I like all for different reasons- aggression is my biggest concern, want something that doesn't beat up on the rest of the tank. That's also why I think it will need to be limited to one from that group.
