Stolireef Reborn -- Rebuild Thread

Spotted a small aptasia in the tank this afternoon. I'm trying to figure out where it came from but that's probably a waste of time. This time, I'm going to be aggressive about killing it early and often. I know there are worse pests in the hobby, but these guys drive me nuts.

My best results for getting rid of aiptasia is Berghia's. Here is a link for some info and an online seller

Since I only have one very small one, I'm just going to mix up a little kalk paste and inject it into it's mouth. I'm really not going to let it get out of control this time.

New Pearly Jawfish

New Pearly Jawfish

I can't believe it but he set up his burrow front and center in the tank. In honor of ZMann, his name is Whack-A-Mole.

I've also killed that one three times. Same thing every time on that one; does great, grows for a few months, then RTN's overnight.

I don't think any of us made it three months. More like three weeks. I'm actually not sure if anyone in town has it at the moment. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks to a weekend trip to Los Angelos with PROP, my 'go slow with adding corals has kind of crashed and burned. Then again, the trip was amazing. Here are some pics of the new additions.

And the required FTS. Sorry about the lousy focus. Gotta get me a better camera.

Of all of the things I added, I'm really hoping that the two blue stags do well. We saw the mother colonies and they were amazing. The Suharsonai has always been a favorite of mine so I've got my fingers crossed for that one as well. The best part is that we have a bunch of cool new things for PROP auctions in the future (assuming of course that we don't kill everything).

wow some very nice acros indeed, and I like the dragon eye colony too. Cant wait for those to grow out and see them make their way to PROP. Sounds like it was a good time all around too!

Thanks. I did lose one small acro frag (it was the one that was doing very poorly right from the beginning) but it was one of the $7 pieces so I'm not too upset. I really hope those two blue acros hold their color. Probably won't know for a few weeks.

Just pretend we misunderstood you. You meant you were going to go small, not slow...

So you are following your plan very well... All of those corals are perfectly small.

Good idea except that a couple of the 'frags' we got over the weekend are more like mini colonies. I'm keeping a pretty close eye on kH and Ca with the additional load but so far, it looks like the Ca reactor is keeping up with things without difficulty. As of last night, kH is at 9.3 and Ca is at 450. Been at those levels rock steady for three weeks.
