stores that have great anemones

I get asked frequent by other reefers about where do I go to get my anemones, so I'll post here for all to share/see. A disclaimer: I have no personal, business and investment relationship with any fish/coral stores.

I go to different places to seek out the anemones, to overseas locations, and made lots on line purchases. In US, the best on line anemone site, as most of you alredy know is Kevin's Live Aquaria.

Next is a LFS that is located in Placentia CA and the name is FIsh COllection.
A few stores do as good of a job in keeping carpet anemoes as Jimmy does.

Here are 3 new pictures of anemones Jimmy has in his store, and some have been there for a few months now.

I must agree... this store is wonderful. I've never been to a LFS like it. Equipped all the LED's its a beautiful setup and worth a trip if youre in the area.

Personal opinion - his store is good, but not the greatest. I think his prices are a little too high. A blue haddoni for $250?! I prefer to go to several other stores in the area that would sell the same anemone for $80.

Wow! you guys are lucky to be in SoCal. $250 anywhere I have ever seen blue carpets would be a steal..

This is the same as FishCollection.com correct?

I can get blue haddoni's in Los Angeles for $75.00 (There is one little store in downtown that sells them when he gets them), $250.00 is defintely a crazy price, but that's the going price everywhere.

That's about the going price for them locally (southern cal). Red haddonis are more - last I paid was $160.

$250 for a blue haddoni - at least in southern cal - is a crazy high price. I am not surprised that he has had that inventory for several months. Sometimes I wonder if store owners comparison shop - as do local reefers. I can normally tell you within a few dollars the going price for most inverts and the more common fish. That is why it is so surprising to me when you walk into a store (any store - not talking specifically about fish collection) and see a flame angel for $75. It is like hanging out a sign saying "I am expensive".

I also have a minor bone to pick with Fish Collection about their pricing. I don't like when I try to buy something out of their "everything in this tank $50" tank and get told that whatever I pick is more expensive. I also don't like the "not for sale" items that are scattered around in tanks throughout the store. "How much for that "X"?" - oh it's not for sale. They need to toss all that stuff in a single display tank and make it off limits. But otherwise they get a decent grade :) About five years ago I tried to compile a database of every aquarium store in LA/OC - here's what I had for them:

Fish Collection
1158 E. Yorba Linda
Placentia
714-524-7109

Size: A-
Livestock: A
Hardgoods: A-
Pricing: B-
Overall score: 9.0

Huge selection - high prices on most. Rare/unusual items (healthy carnation corals, basket starfish, unusual shrimp). Lots of anemones including roses, magnificas, and haddonis. Erratic hours of operation - no hours on door. Call ahead!

His price may be high for SoCal, but not up here. By the way, I did see two other stores in SoCal that are selling large blue haddoni for $300 pluse and they are not even close to acclimated/ healthy specimens that Fish Collection has. I just thought he did a great job keeping so many haddoni's so very healthy, just so unusual.

Would you please tell us the name of that store? That is very good price for blue haddoni. Do they ship?

Any ways, what you said may be true as far as the way he runs his business. I just don't know enough of him or his business practice to agree or disagree with you. I just know those are healthy carpets:)
What stores do you go to get anemones? I would like to visit them next time that we in SoCal. I am always on the look out for awesome anemones and good stores:)

Do you know of any in soutern cali that has blue or red haddonis right now?

I'm not sure what stores you guys are going to in SoCal, but I haven't seen any blue haddonis in SoCal for less than $200 in the last couple years. At least not that size or vibrance.
Fish Collection has both red and blue haddonis right now.

Sorry, didn't see your question. Yes, the one in Placentia CA. There is another one, Fish Collections near LA and they also have carpets frequently.

Hi Phil, good to see you.

Here in Florida, the red ones go for about five or six hundred. The blue ones are just a little cheaper, but not much.

The blue haddoni's that are selling for $75, are they the really blue anemones, or the brown ones with a little blue tint around the edges? We could get the brown/blue haddoni's for around $75, maybe a little more, but not the really blue ones. Even the real green ones are $150+ around here.

They're all 1.5 footers. If they are smaller than that, they won't stay that way for long. These things grow incredibly fast. If you don't have room for a 1.5 footer, you should probably pass on this species. If you get a smaller one, it will become a 1.5 footer before you have a chance to do anything about it.
