Storing Reef Stew

AZBigJohn

Usually confused...
I know the stores store it for a week in a jug with a bubbler, but if I buy a cup or two, and want to save it for 3-4 days (or use it for 3-4 days) can I store it in the fridge? what is the best way to keep it? How do you keep it good, or do you just put it all in the tank at once? I don't want to put to much organic load in the tank (although everything is alive I guess)

It does best at room temperature. I have tried it in the fridge for long term as in a month but at least half of more would die off. If you keep it for a few days make sure to aerate it & after 4 days you might have to add algae to feed it.

Good to know, I added my last two cups to my system all at once, about 1/4 into the DT and the other 3/4 into the fuge pouring it right into my ball of cheato. Protein skimmer didn't go much more crazy than usual. I do need to get some more LR and Macro in the fuge to help build up the population as im getting a mandarin soon.

I certainly appreciate that, sir. You would definitely be the authority on storing it!

I keep 2 - 3 gal here every week for my 240 gal reef. Sometime I'll go 5 days without adding any algae & it's still alive & strong. Room temp & medium speed air Is all you need. Make sure to use rigid tubing or coarse air stones as fine stones will foam.
