storing sand

Hi Ron. Can I keep my sand out my tank for when I set up again. The sand in there is only a few weeks old.

Two things Ian.
1) Your PM storage is full, so I couldn't reply by PM.

2) New sand, old sand, it doesn't make any difference. Put it in a 5g bucket and drain off as much water as you can and cover the bucket with something to keep dust, dirt, bugs, whatever from getting in the sand.

What happens to the bacteria in the sand? Do they die or go bad? Can that be a problem in the future?

As the sand dries out the bacteria dies off.. (but that takes a long time in a bucket... like months)

Its not really a problem in the future to reuse it.. Rinsing it before use would be a wise decision..
