strange clam behaviour

Hi,

My gold teardrop clam is exhibiting some strange behavior. Occasionally he closes of his siphon tube and sucks that part of his mantle deep into his shell. He will stay like that for a couple of minutes but then go back to normal full extention, which he stays like 99% of the time. It doesnt appear that he is gaping and his health in general is good. The area of the mantle that he sucks in appears to be stretched thin or else a little bleached. I have a few pics but it is hard to see and they are kind of blurry.

I run t5's and params are normal except for phosphates which are 0.4 right now.

Why is he doing this? Is it indicitive of stress or disease?
Thanks
