Strawberry shortcake

Grows very well for me. Mid tank under 400W Ushio 20K+ bulbs. Encrusts like crazy. Pic is about 4 months old.... sorry.

i dipped my piece in Lugols (for a short period) and interceptor for 10 mins and mine did fine. i will get a pic of mine when lights come on. Its middle tank, high flow almost directly under 1 of my 400W MH. ENJOY!!!

There are aquacultured ssc out there
it's been in the us for a while now
can't name names but there is a California wholeseller/farmer
growing it for awhile now

OH I dont doubt some people are selling frags of SSC that has been in a captive reef tank for some time (aquacultured). But they are still more being brought in from Australia.....I'd much rather buy a sm colony for $180 than a frag for $50. Also they should mariculture it over there.

Think about all the aquacultured peices we get from the stores now....most of them will rarely or never become available through wild or maricultured shipments...that is why people pay big bucks for the frags. Also the fact that aquaculture is generally more hardy. But when wilds are still coming in what is stopping the stores from getting a big wild colony in ...waiting a month and chopping it into frags at $50 a pop. That is what makes SSC much different than a purple monster or pink lemonade. Its a coral that is still available in wild shipments.

here is mine, sorry for the back pic. It was a quicky with the macro and i didnt try and adjust the color.

Man I hope mine shows up looking like that!!!!!

There's a good chance that it will come like this, but it will most likely lose color for the first month or so. My first frag died overnight due to a drop in pH (I think) so make sure you keep your parameters as stable as possible.

Also, it's probably a good idea to ask who you bought it from the temp/salinity/alk/pH that they had it under.

Good luck

Was a bit of a battle actually. Started with a colony about that size that immediately began to RTN. I fragged up as much as I could and let the frags recover. One recovered I pieced together the frags which eventually grew back into its own colony. Now it grows like a weed (really likes to encrust). Whole process was probably about a year or so I would say.

Here was my piece when I first got it 12/24 last year

and after recovery in May 2010

I have probably made about 5 or so 1"+ frags of it as well.
