Stream on 48" 90g---Which one?

My tank is 48" x 18" x 25" with about 2" of sand. I would like to keep a mixed tank with sps up high and softies (zoo's and leathers) down low. Which Stream setup would be best? Will I have to much velocity and blow stuff (fish and sand) all over the tank?

Tagging - I was thinking of putting 2 x 6000 with a multicontroller on my 75 (48").

It is 99% SPS - would this kill my sand, or could I dial it down with the multicontroller?

In the case of fishermike I might be more inclined to recommend the 7400/2 as this will give you a higher flow top zone and a more modest flow bottom zone. You will likely have problems with everything but the center zone in your tank with keeping LPS and Softies if you use two Streams- in order to give the SPS the flow they need it will need to be run full power and the flow will cover the entire tank. Alternatively you could run one 6000 and 1 7400/2 on your controller and have a higher flow top zone.

For Vester 72 because you have almost all SPS two 6000's should work and all of the pumps I mentioned are controllable from 30% to 100% of power.

As for the sand- what kind of sand. 2-3mm Aragonite sand will be no problem- sugar sand in a 75 will likely be a problem because the tank is shallower than the full reach of the Stream. In the 90 it would be less of a problem especially when established and slightly compacted.

I am able to find the 7410/2 but not a 7400/2, is this the one you are recommending? Is the main difference between these and the streams the pattern of flow? Thanks for your help.

The 7410/2 was discontinued in June- we had inventory through September. It is the same pump but a single controller is included in the box and now that is seperate. Seeing as you will be using a multicontroller the 7400/2 is more what you need as you won't have any use for the single controller. The Stream is the same basic pump but with a different face plate and a prop instead of an impeller. The outlet is 2" in diameter. The standard Turbelle Electronic pumps use an impeller and have a 1" outlet the 7400/2 does about 1050gph at full power or 300 at low power. The flow doesn't spread quite as much and allows you to target a zone about 6" wide for higher flow.

Sorry for all the questions. So, you are recommending that I use two pumps? Where can I find the 7400/2? I have checked marinedepot, PA and champion and all they have are streams and 7410/2. Thanks again!

Just ask them- they can get it, it sounds like they didn't update the listings. Yes, I would get a 7400/2 and a 6000 and a multicontroller which will run both. The 6000 will give a good flow to the whole tank and the 7400/2 will sort of "spotlight" the top region with your SPS to boost the flow. You will be able to adjust the flow of each to suit your needs.
