Streams vs. Closed Loop

How much heat and noise will a pair of 6100s give off.

I know they will use less electricity.

I'm weighing my options for a 280G set up I'm working on between a closed loop with a Sequence Dart and Ocean-Motions 4 Way (plumbed outside- no noise) and a Stream kit with the controller.

The glass tank dimensions are 72" x 30" x 30" and will be viewable from the front and back. The streams would need to mount to either side of the tank.

My 2 main goals for this system is a clean look internally and NO NOISE. All pumps, chillers, etc will be plumbed to a weather proof area on the patio for this reason. Only the tank and refugium / sump will be in the house.

I'm really not into the idea of having power heads mounted internally, so I'm looking for a little encouragement.

thanks everybody.

In a 180, a 6100 will add about 1 degree. So you can factor from their it is a negligible amount. They do hum a little, I can hear them from about 1ft away. This is incredibly variable though, I remember a story about a guy who kept returning one manufacturers stuff because it was too noisy and this is a brand that has as much esteem as we do and is always extremely quiet, turned out the guy was an audioologist. On the other hand, I was a swimmer who has had many ear infections and I like fireworks and explosions so my hearing is probably slightly under par. I would get feedback from others so you can see the range but keep in mind it is very subjective, on a decible level it would be near 20 db.

Thanks Roger.

20db is pretty quiet. In fact, it's a lot quieter than most fans people install in their canopy for cooling.

Would then 2 6100s add 2 degrees in about 300G?

Where would you suggest they be mounted? Tank is 72" x 30" x 30".

Wow, 3 degrees seems like a lot.

I forgot to mention that the tank is intended to be viewed from both sides, so there really isn't a "Back or Front"

Is there a temperature difference between the 6100s and the 6000s?

Tank will be a mixed reef of SPS, LPS, and a few softies?

thanks,

I am giving a worse case scenario both running, odds are you will only see 1.5- 2 degrees but I would rather overestimate than underestimate. The 6000's of course will run much cooler, they use 1/3rd the power. Because you will need more of them and have to run them though at full power most of the time it is a moot point.
