If you can find these papers, I think they might helpful to you. I learned everything I know about conchs from Megan Davis :D I'm sure if you e-mailed her (her address should be on the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution website), she could help you find them. I have hard copies, but couldn't find free copies online.

Davis, M. and A.L. Shawl. A guide for culturing queen conch, Strombus gigas. American Fisheries Society. In press.

Davis, M. 2000. The combined effects of temperature and salinity on growth, development, and survival for tropical gastropod veligers of'Strombiis gigas. Journal of Shellfish Research. 19: 883-889.

Davis, M. 2000. Queen conch (Strombus gigas) culture techniques for research, stock enhancement and growout markets. In: Fingerman, M. and Nagabhushanam, R. (eds.) Recent Advances in Marine Biotechnology, Vol 4, Aquaculture, Science Publishers, Inc. New Hampshire USA, pp. 127-159.

Hope this helps,

Matt

The strombus grazers, the little guys, make round egg cases on the glass, each case with about 6 snails. The bigger guys I've seen photos of making a lot of foam around them on the sand: how this translates to eggs I'm not sure.

Matt,
Tried to email her. Just gets bounced back to me?
WIll try again today incase their server was broken?

Is there any chance that you can scan those papers for me?
or if anyone else knows where one might locate an electronic version??
Cheers
Nathan

Ok for those who are interested, my strombus sp. laid a strand of eggs last friday evening. The spawn looks like a clear tube with small round eggs in it. Took some to work today to take a couple of photos and when I was almost finished I noticed that one had hatched.

Not the most exciting thing in the world I know, but still interesting. The larvae look like small rots and I am guessing feed the same? Have put some GW into the small tank I have these guys in? Will try to post some pics soon? when I can figure it out?

As I understand it these snails have a larval duration of 30 days??? anyone care to comment?

Thanks Gresham,
Will have a look at the ones suggested.
All I could find was abstracts too.
Cheers
Nathan
