Strong glue smell in basement sump area got me VERY nervous

I'm starting to panic thinking it'll affect the livestock in tank :worried:
Can't find the culprit but am running a fan to divert air out of room.

I'm hoping someone will tell me not to worry. The smell is so strong I can't stand it myself - and I have a head cold. UGH!!!

Had a lot of paint cans in the room and pulled them all out just in case. But it smells like glue. We've looked and looked and looked - can't find anything that may have leaked.

Any ideas???????

Can you check/ ruleout the outlets in the area your noticing the smell. If is something in wall (say wiring) you should be able to smell it coming out of an outlet. Can you clip the breakers to see if the odor starts to clear and narrow it down from their?

With the temps at night starting to get lower,is there any chance your furnace kicked on?
Not much help but all I can think of.

Spilled paint can?

Glue smell?

Glue smell?

Get rd of the old paint cans and +1 on checking the wiring......Do you have a light on your sump for a refugium that could be melting if fan is not wo:hmm2:rking? Hope you can find the source of the smell!:mixed:

is the smell an electrical burn - check around furnace and sump pump.

I would run fresh carbon to be safe in regular recommended amount.

Steve beat me to it!

Nothing at outlets, furnace never went on and maybe the glue smell actually is paint. We have a lot of paint cans in the room which are all rusting. Got out the rusty ones and one that leaked out paint, but the paint was dry.

Unfortunately the room of the sump is also my husband's workroom. Gonna have to find a new room for him to work - lol. (but he's not laughing)

Thanks for all the ideas. The fan seems to be pulling out a lot of the odor from the room. Praying fish and coral will not be affected.

carbon is good in these types of situation (actually its always good!). My daughter unloaded air freshener in the tank last year (because the fish like to smell good too!)...carbon :)
