If I can decipher what I think you meant, when small, they will be thinner and therefore more fragile. As they grow, they will and thickness as well as size, so although they won't get any harder, their thickness will make them less likely to break.
An exception to that would be things like Birdsnest corals that tend to grow huge, but remain fine-branched.
