stuck my hand on this thing!

this weekend, i was moving my liverock around in an attemp to aquascape, when my reef attacked me. the little clusters of spikes on this thing are wicked. it took me forever with a pair of tweezers to get all of them out. they were so brittle, like tiny shards of glass. they reminded me of fiberglass insulation bits. this sucker was 5-6" long. OUCH!!

anyways, i'll be wearing gloves from now on.
and here's something a little more soft and cuddly. my clown is always nestling down in the mushroom, thinking it's an anemone. cool!

use duck tape... better yet use GORILLA TAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duck tape, will help pull a bunch out at once. Those things hurt.

I've never gotten nailed by a bristle worm, but I've heard it's not fun. I highly recommend gloves!!

yeah, i'm sure tape would have helped remove some of it, but you have to keep in mind that i was trying NOT to push them in further. even the slightest force on them was quite painful. it made my fingers tingly for a while too. kinda freaky.
gloves from the get-go are my recommendation.

Bristle worms are good dont kill them. banish them to the sump, or better yet give them to me!!!

i cussed at it a lot, but it didn't die. i realize they're beneficial to reefs so i'll let him live in mine, but it was kinda scary seeing one that big when the previous largest one i'd ever seen was shy of an inch, and thinner than pencil lead.
big reef = big worm!

The thin rubber latex gloves will not stop bristle worm spines, I have been stung through them, I would recommend the thicker dish wash gloves

Just a suggestion:

Meat tenderizer, mustard, and human urine are some of the "household" items that will help ease the results of an encounter with a bristle worm.

So far, I have only needed to try two of the three. Found out about this the hard way while diving in the Bahamas.
