stuff that didn't work for me

Good topic again Gary.

I don't like how the Magnets need replaced (rust) every year in my Vortech Wave Maker Pumps. At 1.5 years some of the moving parts need replaced as well or else the thing is too loud, costing around $50 a pump.

yea we have 2 of them vortecs at the zoo tank and i dont really like them either. they stop some times for no reason and we have had to replace the shaft on the one ph at around 7 months.

Mine is still this stinking DSB. With a screen layer, it is almost impossible to remove! I have attached a razor to the end of a stick and I am literally cutting the screen out around the live rock, siphoning ort the fine sand and Straining out the crushed Coral. arghh!! Just give me a nice 1/2" of aragonite!

-Ocean Runner pumps (sorry, some love them, I don't... always restart problems!)

-Phosban/Phosar, et... Killed off SPS, caused PM in my crocea, and lastly turned my tank orange. Been there, done with that.

-CPR Bakpak skimmer: Weak. Not worth the trouble.

-1/10 hp Arctica chiller: Should be left to tanks of 35 or less gallons, imo.

-B-ionic Mg supplement: Boy does that go quick!

-pH monitors: waste. What are you gonna do about it, anyhow? I just watch kH now.

Boy, I'm liable to start a flame war with these reviews... but, there you have it... the things I, personally, wouldn't buy again.

Oh, thought of another one:

-Phosphate test kit: Waste! Always reads zero. We know they're there, don't we? Why question it? If there is algae, it's there. :p

Tank budget!

+1 ... That SO never works! I say just ditch it right away; you'll spend less in the long run since you'll buy better products.

Oh, the wasted hydrometers, and the too-much-trouble refractometers. I am not sure how I ever lived without the conductivity meter:p And, all those cheap un-tradeable corals! Quelle horreur!

yeah. total pita! I don't even worry about it. I just don't care and neither do the inhabitants, seemingly:p

I guess for me it was a waste because then I'd just worry about 1 more thing and not do much about it. Dripping kalk was messy and annoying. I'd only get a pH meter again if I got a Ca reactor.

i love my hydrometer is so quick and easy and if u check it against some that accurate then whats the big deal?

Whoa, sorry. These are just products I wouldn't buy again. To me, it is not worth it. Frequently it reads different two times in a row, and instead of checking it against something, i'll just use that something. just my preference. :)

-B-ionic Mg supplement definitely goes quick.

I recently switched over to Kent Mag. It's much more concentrated lasting me longer.

dunno. These forums are prone to fights about products. Guess I'm paranoid:p Anyhow, I am not sure all of the products I listed qualify under Gary's initial line of thought... but, they are my least favs.

Add to the list the JBJ 70W halide fixture. What a waste! That thing was too weak for 12" of water! :p

LoL..bummer bout your finger, but high quality ones at the right temp are more accruate than refractometers. lol...

No need to imply insult. If you've got something to say, just say it.

And, of course I dose mag. Just not the b-ionic.

wasnt implying insult just simply making an interesting observation. as well as wasnt sure if you were dosing a different mag. and now i do..:)
