Stunning Flame Angel

OMG! THE angel for my 2nd reef tank, for sure!
Gorgeous, I'm sure its glowing in the Ultraviolet part of the spectrum, most intense Flame I've seen!

Peter it can't be said for sure whether it is male or female, but it can be said for sure that if you introduce a small one, the one you have will be the dominant male and the new little one will be the female.

OK, so you see where I am going with this :) How much smaller? I realize MUCH smaller is ideal. What about same size? The new one would be kept in a clear acclimation box in the tank at first.

I wouldn't do the same size. Get a smaller one. You don't want the anal or dorsal fins to be pointed because then it is probably transitioning to a male already. If you can find one with the eyespot still that would be ideal.

How big is the one you have now?

The one I have now is maybe 2" without tail.

I ask all this because I have a Hawaiian flame waiting for me. But it came in a lot larger than expected. I think it may be the same size (have not yet seen it). My current one does not have pointed anal/dorsal fins yet.

Well you could try and pair them, I would introduce them together as soon as possible. The less time they are alone the better, but either way I'd keep both even if you don't pair them. Is it a true hawaiian flame? A red one? If so nice grab.

There will be aggression when you mix them, don't be alarmed. I recently paired up my male C. argi with another C. argi. I kept the little one in a jar for a day then let it out. Yes only a day (I get impatient sometimes). When I let it out the big one nipped it and chased it all around the tank for what seemed like forever. I thought it was going to kill it, so I turned the lights out for 2 days and now they are fine, no aggression.

Just picked up the new flame. He is significantly bigger than my Xmas island one. Probably 3/4" or more larger. Here he is in the acclimation box:

lol, thanks, they are hating on each other right now through the box. We'll see how things go...

I was gonna ask for pics with both in the same frame, but you read my mind. You can definitely tell the difference. When you do decide to introduce them, I would definitely have the lights off for a couple days at least.

My friend that got these for me will be taking care of my tank while I am out of town for the holidays, so he will be in charge of introducing them without them killing each other :D :D

Nice fish! Good luck with them!

I've been waiting to pick 1 of them up for my tank, went to the LFS today and they had 1 remaining from 6 he brought in on Thursday. For some reason I had a bad vibe from the fish, even though he looked very good and was eating like a horse lol. Going back next week to compare a group & pick one out.

FWIW, most flame angels in the industry are from Christmas Island, then Marshalls, then Vanuatu/Fiji/tonga. CXI has the mass collections and export all over the world from Hawaii. I can almost guarantee most in any LFS on the mainland will be from CXI. Some are nicer than others. The one from Blue Harbor is called a tiger flame, and a nice male at that!
