Stupid Foxface!!

I bought some Rastas about a year ago when Corals n More got a bunch of them. I'm pretty sure there were 5 heads when I got the frag.

They didn't grow at all for about 9 months. Not a single new head. Not even a pimple. But then all of a sudden they started growing like crazy adding 2-3 heads a week. I was easily up to 30+.

Until yesterday. Foxface decided they looked too much like Fruit Loops and started nibbling. By the time I noticed, they were gone. The only thing left on the rock is the runners the coral put out to spread itself. $100+ worth of polyps gone. :angryfire:

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS AROUND HERE!!!

Here's what Live Aquaria says about them:

Rabbitfish are generally reef-safe if they are well fed. If not, they may nip at or consume some species of LPS and soft coral polyps.

This guy is super shy with anyone besides me. But anytime I get up and walk past the tank, he's right there looking at me with the FEED ME look on his foxy face. He's a cool fish. I hate to get rid of him. I guess I just have to live with the fact that I shouldn't buy any expensive zoas.

My fish are not underfed. I haven't changed my feeding habits recently, so I'm not sure what the sudden attraction to the Rastas was all about.

Why couldn't he choose to eat some of my green polys that are taking over the tank? Or the Fairy Dust polys that turned from 3-4 into hundreds? Why did it have to be the most valuable thing in the tank? But isn't that just the way it goes?

i had a scribbled rabbit do the same any polyp of value was a treat for him so down the road he went.

Seems like the last few years they are getting worse on eating Coral! Wholesalers or collectors must be training them! ;)
