Stupid Sea Clown.

So I made the noob mistake of buying what you guys call the Sea Clown. I hate it. Worst piece of crap I've ever bought. I hate it, hate it, hate it. I'd really like to run a protein skimmer on my 29g reef, but I've yet to find one in my price range and something that has a few other features.

I think I may have found the answer after some research. The AquaC Remora. Its a HOB and that's what I need. Besides working well I need the unit to be as QUIET as possible because I have my tank in my room. I've noticed many people on the forums have this skimmer and they seem to say good things about it.

A few questions. Is it really worth it? Is it quiet and does it do the job? I've read that some people say its quite loud, but then they do a mod to it and it becomes VERY quiet. Anyone have experience with that?

The microbubble problem. Will it really release microbubbles for a while, but then they'll go away like the manual online says?

I've heard the sea clown works better than the remora, I had a remora it was more of a placebo than anything.

I have both in my experince. Remora is pretty maintainese free and do the job, but after I mesh mod the Sea clone, the sea clone perform better than remora with same mod( I swap the impeller from Sea Clone's Maxi-jet 1200 to Remora's Maxijet 1200). However Sea Clone is easily have leaking issue due to so many connections, therefore I will still suggest you Remora. Because having an aquarium at home is to enjoy the peaceful moment not get more stress to yourself.

The only problem with doing that is that you lose a LOT of the effectiveness of the skimmer---- it can take it a long time to build up a "bubble mass" (I forget what it's called) and when you turn it off, that mound will disappear. When you turn it off for, say, 10 hours, you probably lose several more hours than that of good skimming.

If your tank is doing fine, you're happy and the coral are happy, then it's not worth worrying about. If your tank has some high nutrient issues, you might consider running it longer.
