Subisutute for Mag Flakes (magnesium chloride hexahydrate)

Priest appears to be down 8-10ft. Not too bad for this time of year. The ***** was every part of wood cover was occupied by a crappie fishermen (who appeared to be catching nothing). We concentrated on rock walls and did okay.

No i was reading the article about the DIY 2 part and seen that the mag flake is no longer recommended. That's why i was asking what replaced it.

I am slowly getting caught back up, but Im sure ill have some more dumb questions as i go.
as far as I know, MagFlake (magnesium chloride from Dead Sea Works) is still recommended to prepare the DIY Mg supplement.

Yep, when I first read this I thought the same thing "you're getting the boron issue confused with Dow's calcium chloride ice melter product". I believe Randy and other later found the boron issue to not be too detrimental.

Well that's the thing, some people say its still OK, others say that the chemical composition has changed and to no longer use it. Since i don't know for 100% sure that is good i just went with the BRS 2 part to start with.

It just seemed trivial to spend the amount i did on equipment/livestock. Then to try to save a few bucks on the chemicals that could harm them in the long term concerned me.

the BRS two part is Calcium chloride and alkalinity.

Make sure you're not confusing this with the Mg supplement ;)

+1 on utilizing BRS 2/3-Part instead of DIY.... IMO just not worth the risk.

Also, with a good quality salt Mg supplementation is fairly low (about 1/4 of CA).

Cool thanks for the advise. I'm going to use reef crystals for the salt and of course watch the Mg.
