Substrate Choice

first two links didn't work. You'd be ok with either the pink or oolite. Ideally, if you're setting up a DSB, get a variety of sizes.

shop around for best prices, or any reefers in the area that have extra they'd be willing to sell. any fine sand will have sandstorms at first, but will settle down as bacteria populations grow. make sure you wash it out well - even those that say pre-washed - and you'll cut down on the time your tank looks like milk. usually a matter of days or so before things settle out. once you're sure all the hardware is working, see if you can get a cup of live sand from a neighbor or LFS to seed your sand bed and off you go. live rock will add more diversity when you put it in as well.
