Substrate Help

Hi all,
Just about ready for my new mixed Tank 5x5x2 + sump.
Present tank is bare bottom due to 2ea 6000 streams.
anyone advise on a suitable heavy sand? coral gravel?
and any pros and cons to gravel?
Thanks

aim the 6000's towards each other so the flow interacts. crushed coral will work, it just doesnt have the coverage area of sand. the smaller the substrate diameter, the more benificial bacteria it will hold. REEF-ON!

Be careful because my Arag-Alive sand turned to STONE on me.. Hard as a rock... Its going to be a bear getting that stuff out of there when the time comes..

doesn't matter what type stream pump you are going to use, size 3 should be good enough. It is not too big and also suitable for gobbies and any fish like to buries itself in the sand. I am using size 3 grain in my tank. I have 2x6200, 1x6000, 2xtunze wavebox

Thanks Reefer714,
Puts my mind at rest with the sand, ive seen too much dirty looking gravel with coralin and algae etc.
looks as though I may need another stream though - another excuse to go broke again.

I totally understand what you mean dandydan. I'm still hurting from the tunze purchased four weeks ago. By the way, you should add couple sand shifting star fish to keep your sandbed nice and white.
