I'm setting up my 29g tank, right now it's empty.
I have 20 pounds of crushed oyster shells. I was going use use the crushed shells to make reef rock from cement. I found some reef rock for less than I could make it so I have 20 pounds of crushed shells. For now I'm just going do fowlr but eventually I like to keep corals. Can I mix the crushed oyster shells in with the live sand.

Crushed coral was all the rage a few years ago. Now the prevailing wisdom is not to use it at all.

Not to rob this thread, but why is that? I was recently given approx. 120# of crushed coral substrate and now I'm afraid to use it...
