I have recently set up a 3ft fowlr tank and after 1 month set up, my brother in law gave me a few bunches of halimeda and some caleurpa, the halimeda is still growing slowly in a few parts but is generally going down hill, it ceratinly looks nothing like it was before it came to my tank! the caleurpa is still going ok but I'm just wondering what I can do to rejuvinate the halimeda and get it flourishing?

*the tank has plenty of circulation
*temp is 25-26 celcius
*salinity is fine
*ph is 8.3
*I'm adding plenty of calcium
*adding reef builder
*adding iodide
*adding strontium

2 fluro lights on for 7hrs a day (general marine type also good for algae)

any info would be great, I don't want to lose my macro!!!

I've had halimeda growing under 2x 400W halides, 2x 95W VHO White Actinics, and now 1x 96W PC. It grows the best under the VHOs, ironically, but I cant conclusively say that light was the sole difference in the systems. :p

well, considering what he said he was dosing, plenty of calcium etc. i'm assuming he has NO flourescent lighting. which is why i recommended the stronger lighting.

I have two 36" fluro's, 1 is a power-glo by Hagen, 30W high intensity good for marine algae, corals and freshwater plants apparently, the other is a 50/50 by Oceanlife, 30W high intensity, it says this on the box: 50% daylight (6000K), 50%actinic 03 blue.
quite alot of the halimeda has turned white but there is still some green bits sprouting new growth occasionally, the stringy caluerpa with the little 'buttons' (CHAETO?) is still going well.
any ideas on what else could be stopping the halimeda from flourishing???

Easy,......decrease ur Ca-organik,decrease ur ppt.:rolleye1:

It is possible in a FO to have high phosphates, this will inhibit calcification. Have you by any chance checked your PO4?
