Success keeping an Emperor with other angels

I dont know how you guys do it. I had to remove my emperor. The fish is just way to aggressive. It killed my scribbled and stressed my other angels out.

Does anyone have a long track record of keeping the emperor with other angels?

Success keeping an Emperor with other angels

My emperor killed my second scribble and bullying my larger scribble too so I sold him.

300 gallon

scribb in first, emperor started barking and chasing scrib around tank
very aggressive fish

Emp was a transitioning juve.. became adult and went nuts

The only long standing emperor that I know of is in my cousins tank. He has a 360 and his emperor is about 12" and they have a smaller queen and majestic angel. They have had it for about 3 years with no issues.

I have seen people do it. it must be luck of the draw. For the most part they want to be the only angel in a reef period

It is possible that it has worked for my cousin because he does not have a reef tank. He has a very crowded FOWLR tank. It might just be to much work for the emperor to pick on everyone, so as he is overwhelmed he might just settle down and be happy being the largest fish in the tank

i have only had issues keeping emperors with chrysurus angels. i currently have an emperor with a pair of queens, blueface and annularis without any issues.

This is why, and what works in my tank.

Way back in the late 90's, I added a 7" imperator that had a maculoses, French, annularis, and a navarchus all around the same size as the imperator. The other angels were all at least 5 years established in my tank as I purchased them as juvi's. I used a tank divider and placed the imperator, by himself, in about 1/4 of the tank. Kept this divider for about a month, each week placing one angel with the imperator, and increasing the space that they would be in. Second week add another angel and increase the space and so on. This process didn't allow the other angels to dominate and possibly kill the imperator and slowly socially acclimated the imperator to the other established fish. They all lived in harmony for another, at least four years, when I sold everything because I moved to Maui to start my career. Miss my angels, they have so much more personality than any other fish.

I keep an emperor with a Regal and a Flame angel... occasionally the emporor will snap his head around for a moment... but other than that all three live happily in an sps reef.... I also do feed quite heavily (3x a day)... this on a 300 gallon tank with a very large skimmer

I have a 10" emperor angel in my 350 gallon system along with these other angels: regal, goldflake, flame, coral beauty. It's only been a few months but they all get along so far. The key is to introduce the emperor angel last so that it does not establish territory.

I have also noticed that the emperor is not concerned with pygmy angels. Large angels especially scribbled seem to make the emperor furious.

I feel like 3 years goes by in the blink of an eye in this hobby. What does the OP consider long term?

Same here, Ive had my Emperor with 4 other angels in the tank for 4 years now. He'll show a bit of aggression once in a while but nothing serious. Besides, the blueface is bigger than him at around 8-9" now. I've had my Empeor since he was a juvi.
