success with a peice of a BTA?

I bought a small green BTA with a beautiful purple base recently. The guy at the LFS said it was a peice that broke off of a large anemone so he gave it to me for cheap. After about a week he's still looking very healthy although I've noticed that he doesn't have a mouth and one side of the column shows a sign of where he broke off and is healing over.

My question is, has anbody ever had success with "fragging" anemones or is this one doomed? I tried to feed him a piece of food and he grabbed it and sucked it towards the center of the column but then later released it seeing that he doesn't have a mouth. tomorrow I will take pictures

If its still alive after the first couple of days and your conditions are right you should be fine, mine just split and I can see where it is healing. Anemones also absorb food/nutrients threw there tissue so don't worry about trying to feed it too much.

thanks guys. I was just worried that the anemone wouldn't be able to eat without a mouth. I think he has one somewhere because today I fed him a piece of raw shrimp and he just folded up his tentacles and the food disappeared somehow. here's a pic of him hanging upside-down. You can see where there used to be a big rip on the side of his column and it's healing over. he's only about 2 inches across fully expanded.
