Success with "living with" AEFW - potential predator or different variety of AEFW?

I too have been living with them for many years now , this new tank is only about a year old, but sadly they made their way into this system from my old one too ...

weekly I use MJ to blow corals and rocks, and feed the corals ALOT. also elevated K+ levels, at 450 PPM .

only have ISsues with AEFW, when my angels start to like an acro, and damage it, and then the weak acro gets attacked by AEFW ... they do make it back fine if I increase feeding though. only SPS addicts who visit my tank can tell I have them worms lol

As a wise man once said : There's only one thing to do - learn the language of the Flatworms, earn their trust, and breed with their women. And in time our differences will be forgotten. LOLOL haha [from Family guy]

Joe,

How many coral gobies do you have in your tank?
Do they show any aggression towards fish that approach their coral?.
Ever seen them pick at coral polyps?.

Thanks
Mo

Great thread kept me from being super depressed on aefw .... I found eggs on a new pieces so I know there in there I'm going to blast with mj and keep my fingers crossed

Good thread.

I have them in my small 40 gallon tank. I slacked off my weekly basting and noticed my ORA Blue Voodoo was looking odd. Blew off two large ones with a turkey baster. Looking at this pic below I think I see another on the lower right. :)

I only have 2 years experience with Reef tanks so most of my blue corals are brown. :) Easy for AEFW to hide.

I've seen them on all my brown or bluish corals but never on my green slimer, another small green/yellow acro, or this red and green clump.

My tank is too small for any real predators, IMO. I had a sixline in there but had to take it back to the LFS when it matured and started picking on all the other fish.

I found 2 colonies with at least 1000 eggs in the middle couldn't get in there to scrape... What do u guys usually do on those ?

I ended up fragging and tossing rest which upsets me but .. Lu also dipped the mentioned corals and found at least. 200 of all sizes on each ... The funny thing is both corals were doing ok growing and nice color just underneath was kinda white and bothered lookin .... Damn these stupid worms **** me
Off

Anyone have any before and after basting pics?

it looks absolutely the same ... blowing the predator off doesnt mean the coral fixes itself ASAP ... it takes time.

if you keep blowing them off a coral, the coral will recover....

if you blow corals since the begining, it wont be damaged for it to recover ...

That makes sense. I was just wanting to see if any recovery has taken place without totally getting rid of them. It sounds possible but just another tank chore.

Yes, a more severe infestation of hundreds per colony is not uncommon. They will populate until there is nothing left to eat. Also, basting does not remove all of them. If a couple come flying off, there are likely more.

I chose to eliminate aefw from my tank instead of live with them.

I had AEFW once... Not entirely sure where they came from but destructive things! They went after my Palmers Blue Milli. I ended up pulling the colony out and dipping it twice a week. I also dosed KZ Flatworm Stop and bought a couple wrasses. I was able to rid my tank of them completely within a months time. Since then, my Palmers has grown massive now.

They were only on 2 colonies that I pulled can't find them on any others yet so the last guy that posted only
Had 1 acro?

is it possible to have AEFW's that don't leave bite marks or eggs? if so will coral RX be enough to get rid of them with weekly dips?

and what about the encrusting parts? chip them off or cover them with putty or something?

Well after reading through this thread i took my baster and blasted my ora tri color valida and got alot around 15 flat worms off my mini colony!
For the last couple weeks ive been seeing a decline in that coral from the base i just finished this a few minutes ago and i basted my other sps and only this had any sign of aefw all other corral look fine as well.
I just couldnt believe i didnt see any let alone 15 freaking worms on my poor corral.
I will continue to bast my sps in the future before i take drastic steps since many others seem to keep control of aefw by basting.
How often should i bast?
Thanks for the great thread!
