I made a small bowl-shaped plug out of aquamend, let it dry out, and buried it underneath the sand in a shady spot. I put the newly-purchased clam there to acclimate her to my halide lighting, and she attached to the plug.
After a week to settle in, I was able to move her and the plug to a brighter spot in the sand. She did even better, with her mantle opened fully for the week I left her there to acclimate.
Yesterday I moved the clam to its final spot up in the rocks under bright lighting. Once again the clam took to the change just fine, and remained attached to the putty plug, which I could affox to the rockwork.
I just wanted to give a shout out for all the good advice in the forum. Patience and slow changes make for a really happy animal.
