Suggest a sand sifter/cleaner

Can't believe no one has mentioned cucumbers! Sand eating cucumbers do not eat pods, worms, or, other inverts in the sand...just bacteria and algae and some detritus off the sand. They eat dirty sand, and, poop out clean white sand. I like the black or yellowish gulf cucumbers as they are mobile and will move all around the tank and between rockwork and stay small. Also, they are the least toxic and unlikely to cause problems if they die. I actually had a large one die in my 55 reef a few year back, and even after it nearly dissintergrated while trying to remove it, never caused any issues with the rest of my tank. In your tank, you could add a dozen or even mix up with a few tigertails (don't move around much).

A dozen? I'd do one, maybe two in that size tank. You could always add more.

Cucumbers are good providing the LFS gets sand sifting cucumbers instead of filter feeds, but two would be good in your tank. RSSJSR I was responding to the OP because it sounds like we have the same kind of sand.

Cukes scare the crap out of me!

And I have quite a bit of negative space in my tank. 100lbs of rock in a 125 gallon 6 foot tank. There is a good foot and a half in the middle that has no rock at all; and then there is a good 6-8 inches across the entire front of the tank.

A hawkwing might work well for you, then. Mine seems to always keep things stirred up in my 5 x 2 footprint tank.

I think the cuke nuke thing is a bit over blown. Hearing an account of it actually happening is extremely rare ime. But that's up to you, obviously.
