Suggested stocking list for a 90 gallon

Back again making a list for a 90 gallon now.... Here is what I have, am I ok? Or could I add another small fish?


1 purple tang or sailfin tang?
3 black axil chromis
1 picasso clown
1 tailspot blenny
1 pink spoted sand sifter
1 mandarin
1 carpenters flasher wrasse

With the PT being the only large fish in the tank, I think you'd be OK assuming it's a 4' tank. Sailfins get huge...pass. Why not get the clown a mate?

Because I read they mate for life and at the store there were 2 of them and then I came back to buy them and one was gone so idk if I am able to mate it with a tiny percula cuz picassos are very expensive I got mine for a deal cuz it was the last one left.

You can absolutely pair the clown with another, designer or otherwise. How big is the current clown? Generally works best to buy a noticeably smaller one.

The one right now is about an inch and a half. But do I just acclimate it like any other fish and then put him in there?

No sailfin the purple should be okay I am going to have a purple tang in my 90

I always heard that a PT would get too big for a 90g and is too aggressive. Is this true? Assuming it's the only tang, what other fish should he avoid that would be too big to house with a PT?

Are there any other tags that I would be able to get? Also maybe instead of a school of chromises could I do another small schooling fish? Any ideas? No damsels I don't like them at all.... I am looking for tons of color!

What about cardinals?

Pajama cardinals are colorful, so are orange-lined, flame, and Fowleria cardinals.
There have been a lot of "no purple tangs in a 90 gallon" threads here and elsewhere.

Seriously? Your mom is dictating your tank? That sounds beyond irritating. I think one person per tank should be the rule. Its so personal. Set up a little 20g for her.

Well I see where she is coming from as she wants colors cuz I do too.....but she just wants it to be the most colorful thing and she is paying for it! So I let her pick a few

The whole paying thing is a bit of a trump card. And color is good. Also, don't underestimate behavior. Over the long haul, fish with complex behaviors are going to keep you engaged. Also, m/f pairs if that's how the species lives in the wild are great for observing natural behaviors.

For pure color in a 90, I would go with a Yellow Coris Wrasse and a Royal Gramma for sure. Both peaceful and you can see them from down the block. Also, flashers wrasses if you have a good top. I like Blue and Filamented. And of course clowns. Maybe a trio of one of the smaller species of Anthias. I don't know that group well but many others do. Good luck!

I would be a bit hesitant to put an adult Purple Tang into a 4' tank. I would think a minimum of 5' would be best. In a 4', really the only tangs I would put in would be a Kole or Mimic. As others have said, it's more about tank length than gallon size.

Still open for suggestions on a trio of anthiases that are colorful and peaceful! Thanks for everyone's help by the way!
