Suggestion Box

My comment was a little tongue and check but if the number of species remains small it would be much easier than all the common gimmick for sale names.

5 species from this part of the world AND done.

Just a thought but I bet many zoas placed as a certain species are actually different. Also with so many morphological differences some may even be the same species. DNA testing would help solve this. Too bad no one here that I know of can do this.

We subtract the name game. Whats this? How do i make this grow faster? Show off thread. Zoas have been closed for 5 days what do i do next? If we take those questions away what keeps this forum above water?? Nothing.......

It seems like there's more you want to say my friend. I think you should go ahead and say it. I'm being very serious here.

I think continuing the topic of the week is a great idea to spur some insight, and generate some feedback.

Whats the longest time your zoas have been closed up? Mine were affected by algea growing inbwtween them then that got eliminated and then they remained affeted by a dino take-over in my tank. These guys have been POed and closed up since...October !!
So just thought I'd throw this qustions in the mix.
Thanks for keeping the news group going with value to our experience.

almost 2 months, PPE's, they would open probably 5% then close back up after a day. Blood shots for a month or so.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Friday Night for creating this suggestion thread. Your desire to help make this forum even better is greatly appreciated my friend. Much respect.

Well I was on vacation for the past week or so (aruba) so I am just seeing this now.

1. What should every zoa keeper always have on hand? For example, dips, tools, medications etc.
2. What organisms are very beneficial for zoas and what ones are not. For example what clean up crew will help zoas and which will hurt them. What fish are good to have around and which ones are not.

I have been tossing those things around in my head for a while.

What will I see if:

pH is out of whack? Closed/Open/Melting away/growth explosion?
Calcium is low?
Alk?
Mg?
Etc.

I would really like to see a thread with chemical parameters, and what can be expected from each. Photo evidence would be helpful.

As to the topic of keeping this thread alive, PICTURES! Holy heck! Zoas can be some of the most colorful corals in the tank, and people really salivate over pics. It's the only thing that jump starts a thread in any of these forums. It's so boring to see a thread that says, " my zoas won't open" then the answers are read the sticky thread and fix what's out of whack. Sorry but it's just plain not helpful.

I understand why there needs to be controls in place, so that everytime a guy posts a pic of his really cool zoas, it doesn't just disintegrate into "PM me when you're ready to frag them" But really more pics shake loose the guys who would simply post, "Nice zoas" and keeps them active.

Just my rambling. Take it for what it's worth.

So are you saying that you and/or maybe others gain more from this forum via pictures, than reading threads which say, "my zoas won't open", which will lead to a discussion of that issue and possibly a resolution by directing them/you to a link, thus the answer?

I think what many of us are hoping is that everyone who comes here makes an attempt to share and give back to the forum to help collectively make this place even better than it already is. It doesn't matter if you have been reefing 20 minutes....or 20 years...you have something to share in this forum. An introduction in one of the Introduction threads floating in this forum, is sharing. Discussing how you set up your first tank and the pitfalls and surprises, is sharing. What you've learned in the past 10 years or from this forum, is sharing. Your concerns, problems and hypotheticals would also be considerd sharing. I believe everyone who comes to the tables should bring something. If your corals did or didn't grow last month, share it. If you have Googled something off the top of your head and made a discovery, share it. If you've changed your lighting scheme, share it. If absolutely everything is going smoothly in your tank or if it is on the brink of crashing, share it. If you read a thread, there has to be something here you did, didn't, thought or wish you knew or had known. If so, share it.

To this very day, I will just search through page after page after page of old post and always seem to learn something new or I'm enlightened on a topic. I'll often search back years to see what we were discussing then which may be relevent now. The possibilities for feedback, questions, topics and discussions are endless.

I'm no longer involved as I passed it on to others to get as many people involved as possible, I'm sure they are working on it.
