Suggestions for a narrow shelving unit for 55-Gallon saltwater storage

I use a cheap steel shelving rack to hold my 55-Gallon saltwater storage, which shares half of a typical washer/dryer enclosure with a utility sink and RO/DI system.

I've had it for a little over a year and the rust build-up makes me think that I need to replace it soon before the whole thing collapses.

The shelf is 36" x 18" x 12". Because of the narrow space the maximum foot print is about 20" x 16". The 36" height is about ideal, give or take a couple inches.

I don't have a great many tools, so I'd prefer something I can buy rather than make, unless you guys can recommend an easy build. Something available on Amazon would be ideal. Thanks!

My suggestion is to find a handy friend or try a DIY. Make it out of wood and stain it. All you need are some 2x4s, a saw, a drill, and some deck screws. If you figure out the measurements first, HD will even cut the 2x4s for you. Then you don't even need a saw. Just build a box with 2x4 supports running between the top of the box. You won't need a shelf if the 2x4s and supports are under the water container. This sounds more intimidating than it is.

Thanks for the advice, guys. The chrome shelf has a footprint of 12" x 30", which would be too big to be able to close the enclosure--my cats are rascals, so I try to keep them out of that area.

All the shelves I've been looking at are either too small, too big, not strong enough or made of steel, which rusts. Looks like I'll be going the DIY route. Hopefully, I can cajole one of my more mechanically gifted friends into helping out.

That says it is rated for 400lbs per shelf. 55 gallons of water is just a hair over 400lbs so just keep that in mind. Personally it would make me nervous to push that limit. There are others rated higher per shelf out there.

I agree. This is a cheap and easy way to create a super strong stand. Plus, it's fun. I'd be very wary of the stand you're currently using.
