suggestions for halide bulbs

Are you unhappy with your Phoenix bulbs? I'm running XM 20k, but haven't tried anything else. I'm wanting to try Radiums next, but I've got a magnetic pulse start M138 ballast and the Radiums need HQI.

I have to update my tank info. I currently have a coralvue all in one fixture with 250/400w electronic select a ballast. I am running 400w 20k Radiums and they are bleaching some of my acros so I was gonna go to 250w bulbs. I have read that 250w Radiums dont fire up right with coralvue ballasts. I really like the blue look so I want to go with a 14k bulb for color and par.

They have phoenix mogul base bulbs, I have not use them though. The 400w 12k Reeflux bulbs gave me good results but from what I've read the 250w had issues.
I currently run 250w radiums in one of my tanks and it’s the best bulb I ever had, but I guess you can’t use them.
How high is your fixture? the 400w radium is a great bulb. I'd just try to raise the fixture or acclimate the corals by shortening the photoperiod and slowly increasing it.

I moved the fixture from 12" above for 8 hours to 18" for 6 hrs. I only ran it for 6 hours for a week. I tend to be a little impatient. I should have started out that way going from 250w 14K phoenix's to 400 watters. The guy I bought the light from gave me a set of XM 250w 10K bulbs and WOW they are really yellow. I dont know how anybody uses those bulbs. They are in my fixture now, I dont know if I should get a set of 250w 14K's or put the 400w Radiums back in and give them a little more time with 18" from the water for 6 hours. I know 400w Radiums are one of the best bulbs and I really like the blue color.
