Suggestions on painting aquarium

Looking for some input on what kind of paint I should use to paint the back of our aquarium. Spray or Roll on? And any tips to make it a smooth and painless as possible. Thanks

Best bet is to go to a sign place that sells vinyl and use that instead. It was a ton easier for me to do that then paint. Took me 5 minutes to black out the back of my 180 while it took me a couple hrs and many coats of paint to do the same on my 125

Sounds like a great idea. My only problem is my tank is set up allready. I had a backround on it but I ripped it messing around with one of the bulkheads. Thinking I might be stuck rolling it unless I want to temporarily drain it and pull it out.

Vinyl is a good idea I would not paint the tank with it already setup those fumes are not going to be good

vinyl is the way to go ! most tanks can be done in minutes and its very easy to do just be sure cut it so it covers the edge or the top rim so you dont get light peeking through . it reall is easy and there are no fumes ,no recoating and it doesn't scratch off like paint will .

I would do a low/no VOC roll on latex paint with a small pore sponge roller for your situation.

Go to your LFS and buy a background with blue or black and tape it onto the back like I did. You would never be able to tell the difference.

Also, your crazy if your going to paint a tank that is already set up. I had fumes from spray cans from another room go into my tank and completely destroy everything .

Never spray if the tank is setup. Vinyl, rolled backgrounds, or acyrlic latex paint put on with roller or sponge brush.

I used a black garbage bag!

If you use garbage bag or standard background use a small amount of vaseline and squeegee it on. This keeps it stuck and doesn't get salt creep or bubbles that detract. Gives it a painted look but easily removable.

I spray painted mine, but would never put spray paint in the same room as a running tank, let alone directed straight at it. As many have suggested, at this point, I'd pursue an alternative to painting if at all possible.

Well after debating with myself on how I was going to cover up the back of the tank I decided the easiest way to do it was to paint it. I rolled on three coats of paint and so far no casualties (fingers crossed). Turned out great.. Thanks again for all of your input.
