I've got two perculas in my tank and would love to get them a host, but I don't want an anemone. They are so finicky and I don't want to come home with one shredded in a power head for obvious reasons. Having said this, what are some good corals for hosting. I want to say I've read/seen/heard toadstools but what about frog spawn? This isn't an immediate need because my tank is still too new, but I'm just trying to plan ahead.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Clownfish are rather finicky over what they like to host. Mine hang around a small sebae during the day, but at night they host some hair algae on my back wall that they won't allow my turbo snails near (or anything else for that matter) to clean.

As long as your power heads are covered your clowns should be okay, unless they are sick and can't swim away and by the time that happens it is too late for the fish any ways.
How large are your clowns in comparison to the openings on your power heads?

I have a pair of little SI Percs. There used to be an 8" Frogspawn and a 3" BTA in their tank. The female took the BTA and the male took the Frogspawn. I find it very rare that any clownfish will host any type of coral, but that may be different for others. I think your best bet is in any type of Euphyllia as they are most like anemones.

One of my Cinnamon Clowns is currently using a Hawaiin Feather Duster as his home. All because he got booted from his Sebae by the other Cinnamon

My bf's clowns used a huge patch of mushrooms as a host until a torch coral was added to the tank. They then used that as a host until a RBTA was added. My pair of clowns currently host a broken sea shell as I haven't added any corals to my nano yet.

Thanks for the advice all.

Nebthet, I'm not worried about the clowns and the PH--was referring to the anemones. Both of my clowns are only about 2.5" although one is getting a little bigger so I'm sure it will be the female.

I really think these two want to host because they stay together and hover in one area of my tank like they are waiting for something to appear. They even do this at night when the lights are out.

I will defo check out your suggestions.

Thanks again,

Wes
