I bought a 175w MH Pendant for a 40Gal hex tank. Currently running a 2X65PC. I am thinking of building a canopy for the tank and mounting the light inside if I do this will it generate to much heat and will I have to have a fan? Also how long should I leave the MH running to begin with to acclimate my corals to the light. Thanks

How deep is the tank ? How far off the water do you plan on mounting it ? You will have to hang it and see how much it rises your temp first. If it does raise the temp too high after you have decided where to hang it then youd have to get a fan to help. My suggestion for first running the MH would be no more than 4 hours starting off. After a day or two I would increase them up 1 to 2 hrs each day. Up to 8-12hrs a day. How long to leave them on is up to you. Just be remined the longer they are on the more algae is going to grow aswell.
