Sump Cleaning

Does anyone have a good way of cleaning the gunk in the bottom of the sump without tearing it all apart? Siphoning won't work at ground level

go and buy a small brush attachment for a small shop vac, and rig it to your siphon. works great because as you brush it will suck out the deitrus. hope this helps

Just use a small maxi jet pump, and clean it out when you do a water change. Use the inlet of the pump to suck up the small stuff, that won't damage the pump.

You know that is a great idea!!! There is nothing inside of a wet/dry shop vac that will corode from the salt is there?

i meant attach the brush from the shop vac to your gravel siphon. this will give you the ability to brush and siphon all the junk out at the same time. I dont think i would want to see the effects of salt water on a shopvac.

I didnt think you could siphon because of a bucket being higher, but you can, have you tried yet? if so a powerhead,

That is what I thought. I will use the powerhead. (The hose on my shop-vac is huge. Like the ones at the carwash) And it would suck the fish right out of the tank through the return line. lol, Not to mention what it would do to the shop-vac. If it was an old one well........

Lol, i would love to see the look on someones face about 2 seconds after placing a shopvac hose in the tank and flipping the switch. That tank would be dry as a shop floor in an instant lol. If anyone ever trys it, remember to video it so you can win America's Funniest home videos and pay for all the damage.

i sucked out water from the last tear down i did with a shop vac. I however have never tried it with my tank up and running. I was pretty violent. Imagine siphoning your tank with a 2 inch diameter hose.

A cannister filter does that job pretty well. Plus, the water gets returned to the tank all sparkly clean

I bought a Rio 2500 pump just for that. Although, it is a bit large. Certainly fills up the tank quickly though. 5 gallons in a bout 15 seconds.
