sump design

I have a 30 Gal tank that I just moved and can now put a small sump on it. I have a spare 10 gallon tank that I was going to use.

My plan is to add one piece of acrylic dividing the tank about 80 / 20 one half will be a fuge / cheato area with miracle mud the other half the other half with the return pump.

The single acrylic divider will go about 70 % of tank height and just help with overflow if the HOB overflow loses suction I wont empty the whole sump into the tank just one chamber.

Does this plan sound ok for a simple sump / fuge??

ok let me ask this

Can I leave the 10 Gallon all open with sand and macro. no divider. would that work. maybe put the mag 5 on a platform so if I lose siphon on the HOB It will only drain X amount of water into main tank

I would put baffles in there, will go a long way towards stopping micro-bubbles that you will get from the inflow into the sump.

Consider chaeto alone and forget the miracle mud. Miracle mud is usually used to get a layering affect in a deep sand bed or a remote deep sand bed. Very liittle benifit and big mess in your particular situation.
