Wow thanks guys, this is really helping me understand alot more about this. I hear what you guys are saying about making sure the fuge gets alot of nutrients for the life in there. I think thought I'll try this one below. Atleast now it sort of seems to be personal preference. The reason I think this one will work better for me is it will run a bit cleaner. Since I will have more fish than coral this may reduce the amount of waste cleanup. Here's why I think this one will work better for my situation:
1. Socks, will provide better mechanical filtration to remove large debris IE big fish poop
2. By having the skimmer on the left of the fuge area, it will reduce microbubbles
3. The copeopods (SP?) that do make it out only have to ride the return pump line back to the tank, they don't have to wizz around the skimmer first.
4. Bu removing the 2 baffles next to the pump it will make the copeopods return a bit easier than having to go through a bubble trap.
5. The macro algae removes absorbs excess nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates. The skimmer will not remove all of it. So the fuge should get some nutrients, not as much but still enough to support life.
6. I like the idea of not having large fish turds plucking into the fuge personally.
And if it doesnt work great I'm open to move it around. It would not be that hard given the design to just turn it around backwards and swap the return and flow section.
