Sump grow light

I have a refugium in one half of my sump, with lower flow. I'd like to grow cheato algae in there at some point and was searching on the light schedule for that.

I had heard that running it opposite the DT light schedule would keep photosynthesis going 24 hrs a day, could i just run the grow light 24 hr's a day?

i did some searching but didn't find much about grow light schedules for sumps.

Let me know what you think.

I have done both ran them 24 hours a day and others I have run opposite of the display...this is supposed to help keep PH stable.

However my best growth has come from running them 24 hours a day.

On my new 180 in wall build I am trying the opposite time once again to see how it will work out.

Long term you are better off giving the refugium a dark photo-period. I run mine on for 17 hours, off during the DT peak lighting period.

I've done both 24 hour and counter-cycle and am not sold on one way being better than the other. Try whatever seems right to you and see how it goes.

They chaeto was crawling with pods both ways. Maybe the composition would be altered with a day/night shift but I can't think of any reason that it would be important to us.

I use a 6500 k cfl floodlight in an ordinary clipon shop light fixture, grows like mad, lit 24/7
