sump help quick!!!

Me being the idiot noob I am built a sump to big to fit under my tank. However, my wife being the understanding woman she is says "just put it off to the side." So my question..... If my tank is on one wall and the sump is 90 degrees to the side, will the overflow still work into the sump and the return back to the tank?
 
Yes it will work fine as long as the water is always flowing down hill to the sump.

Is the sump to big to fit under the stand or are you saying it wont fit throught he doors of the stand?
 
yup
as long as it's below the DT, you will be fine as long as there is still gravity to get it down, and a pump to return it. :-)
 
It should. There are many people on here with the sumps and fuges in other rooms or the basement. You will have to do some creative plumbing and make sure your pump can handle the head load to cover the distance but I think you are ok. Just my $.02.
 
downhill is what matters. Mine is 15 feet to the side and downstairs from the tank. Literally---it's in the basement. The only thing that will matter is if your pump is potent enough to get it back to the tank.

It won't even fit under the stand. Thought I got one that would....oops. I believe the pump will work, if not I'll get a bigger one tomorrow and have it all plumbed today.

i got a sump too big for my stand too lol im not sure this will work for you but i took out the cross brace in the middle of the stand and slid it in and put the brace back in..in my opinion the center brace is even stronger than before it was only held in by a couple of staples i used some screws to lock it in.....hope this helps you out:fun4:
 
Nother question. It;s up and going, I'll have pics later, but on the ovrflow. There is the part in the tank, then the part outside the tank. The outside part is divided into two section, the overflow and the drain to the sump. Well the overflow works, but the drain section keeps filling up to the divider and almost draining completely out over and over. Any ideas?

you mean out and over to the floor?
sounds like the pump is a little too strong.
may have to get a smaller pump, or put a valve on the pump and choke it down a little.
 
No the overflow on back of the tank. I've already had to choke the return pump back to keep it from draining the return section of the sump
 
It is hard piped with PVC on the drain side? Did you have to use some 90 degrees in the plumbing to get it to the new sump location? If you did use some 90's it will slow the drain down a good bit and then you will have to choke down the return pump to match flow.
If you did do it that way, get some flex tubing and try to see if they helps increase the flow.

Just guessing here.

The side on the right comes from the tank, while the side on the left is the drain to the sump. How do I regulate the flow over the divider so that it stops going up and down all the time? I changed it around a little and placed a riser pipe and the media over it, but it still does is some.

Up and running. Not necessarily the cleanest build it could have been, but what yo gonna do? If my wifey isn't pulling my leg I'll have a 150 in june anyway and have to redo it all. But it drains, skims, flows, and returns. Haven't seen a return microbubble yet! The collection cup in the second pic was after about two hours. I broke the skimmer in in viniger water and cleaned it out, but I thought this would be like a sludge not watery, any suggestions?
 
Your water level in the skimmer is too high. Choke it down with the air valve or the output valve. Skimmers always have one of the 2 or both.
 
I'm wondering if, when you moved the sump out to the side, that the added distance is too much for the pump.
What pump do you have?
