Ok, heres the shortend version had a 45 gal arcrylic sump woke up one morning and it was empty floor was covered it had cracked somehow in the night along a seam went back to a temp sump ihave now the hob overflow need to be jump started every week meaning evrything runs fine untill i do the weekly change out with the other one this did not happen what am i doing wrong or is this the nature of the beast ? I know I am going to be getting a drilled tank in spring but for now what can i do ?

Lets try a longer version. What are you asking? Your skimmer will act up after a water change (i.e. no foam). Wait a while and you should get your foam foam back. As far as the sump goes, you will need another one.

no the sump broke put in a smaller sump skimmer does fine the oveflow box does not keep up with the output of the return pump after about a week as soon as i restart siphon in oveflow box it is good until I take out 15 gal for w/c

What is the diameter of your U-tube? It is most likely that the U-tube is not sized to the pump. If the pump is rated lower than the U-tube, the tube might break siphon. If the pump is rated higher than the U-tube, the tank might overflow.

When running, is there any air in the U-tube? Are you taking the W/C water out of the sump while the pump is running? That shouldn't break the siphon unless you lower the head enough that the pump reduces the flow below the low end of the U-tube.

Option 1 might be getting a smaller diameter U-tube.
Option 2 might be doing two smaller water changes so you are not removing 15 g all at once.

Just some ideas.

We want to help. One question: could you please punctuate your sentences using periods?
I'm really bad with shorthand, text etc. and I have a headache.
Until you replace the sump it sounds like Dave's option (#2) is the solution:

smaller water changes so you are not removing 15 g all at once

but I'm not sure.

Hahahahaha, Gary. Eeeesh.

mbell- Is there anyway you might get your hands on a smaller pump temporarily? I don't know if your setup is hard plumbed or not.

Sounds like a horrible mess :( Is all your equipment the same except for the sump itself?
Am I understanding you right, that the overflow syphon breaks only during the water change, and it didn't do that before? The only reasons I can think of that the cpr I use would do that is if I leave the pump on that maintains the syphon, or if when I turn the power back on, the pump doesn't supply water fast enough at startup, and the water is being pulled from the back of the unit before its supplied with enough water.
